Ms Chew Yien
Chew Yien graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2005, with a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and Sociology.
A strong believer in character development, she decided to join Outward Bound Singapore (OBS) as an instructor after graduation. During her 3 years in OBS, she facilitated many participants in their learning processes in the outdoor environment and guided them in the journey of self-discovery.
During her 3 years with OBS, Chew Yien was inspired to pick up more skills to be able to connect and understand the youth more. Thus, she decided to pursue a Master in Guidance and Counselling course with James Cook University (Singapore Campus). During the period of her studies, Chew Yien worked as a part time lecturer with Republic Polytechnic, teaching in the Diploma of Outdoor Adventure Learning. Upon graduation, Chew Yien joined the Raffles Institute for Experiential Learning (RIEL) family as an experiential education officer and shares in pursuit and devotion to the development of the character and values of the youth.
Chew Yien has acquired the following skills and experiences:
- Wilderness Medical First Responder Level 3
- Basic Cardio Life Support
- Life Saving- Bronze Medallion
- Kayaking Proficiency Coaching Award- Level 1
- Technical Mountaineering Course in New Zealand (2004)
- Technical Ice-climbing course in Sichuan, China (2008)
Chew Yien is an athlete and is very active in running, swimming and rowing. She has taken part in many adventure races locally and overseas. She hopes to influence the youth to adopt a healthy lifestyle with her adventurous spirit and positive attitude.
