Mr Muhammad Imran
Imran graduated from the National University of Singapore in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science, majoring in Chemistry. Prior to joining Raffles Institute for Experiential Learning, he had been a Chemistry teacher for 5 years.
Imran’s introduction to the outdoors was accidental; being told that he would climb Mount Kinabalu as part of an Outward Bound Sabah course, at the age of 15. Nevertheless, it was to be the start of a long and happy relationship, continuing his experiences and learning in the outdoors throughout his school and working life.
As an educator, Imran would scrounge around for opportunities to bring his students out of the classroom, incorporating the outdoor environment into academic concepts as well as personal and social development. It was as a teacher that Imran first fully realized the potential of the outdoors as an equalizer, and a medium for holistic and inter-disciplinary education.
In between jaunts to the hills and seas, Imran has picked up the following qualifications and experiences:
- Technical Mountaineering Course, Adventure Consultants, New Zealand
- Postgraduate Diploma in Education, Merit (Secondary)
- Ministry of Education Outdoor Activity Facilities Instructor
- Wilderness Medical First Responder Level II, Outward Bound Singapore
When not immersing himself in the outdoors, he can be found beneath piles of Haruki Murakami and Malcolm Gladwell books at coffee joints scattered around the island.
